Risk factors for head and neck cancer include tobacco and alcohol use. Symptoms may include a lump in the neck, a sore throat that won’t go away, prolonged hoarseness, weight loss, or bringing up blood from the throat. Patients with these symptoms should obtain a thorough head and neck examination.

Removal of a portion or all of the thyroid gland may be necessary for benign or malignant thyroid nodules and in some other thyroid diseases.
Risk factors for thyroid cancer include a family history of thyroid cancer and a history of radiation exposure. Symptoms may include a lump in the thyroid or hoarseness. When a thyroid nodule is found, tests may need to be performed to determine if the nodule is cancerous.

Swollen lymph nodes, neck cysts, salivary gland masses, skin cysts, and soft tissue masses in the face, scalp, or neck are treated regularly by Drs. Thomason and Zhou. Treatment may require medication, radiology tests, biopsies, or surgery.
