Dizziness & Vertigo

Inner Ear Diseases

The most common cause of vertigo is a condition called BPPV--benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.  This disease can be diagnosed and treated in a single office visit.  Other diseases include  Meniere's disease, autoimmune inner ear disease, labyrinthitis, and vestibular neuritis.  Cardiovascular and neurological diseases can also cause dizziness and vertigo so a careful evaluation is necessary.

Inner Ear Testing

We test inner ear function with a diagnostic test called a VNG.  This test is performed in our office and it takes about 1 hour.  We can determine if there has been damage to either inner ear or if other causes are more likely.
