Voice & Swallowing

Causes of Hoarseness

Hoarseness can be caused by viral infections, such as laryngitis, but also from a variety of benign or malignant diseases affecting the structure or the movement of the vocal cords.

Laryngoscopy is one of the most important tools to diagnose voice and swallowing disorders.  We perform laryngoscopy in the office every day to help us accurately diagnose voice problems.

Swallowing Disorders

Swallowing disorders can be caused by a number of conditions affecting the oral cavity, salivary glands, larynx, tongue, or esophagus.  Difficulty swallowing solid food or liquids can be an important symptom of disease affecting these structures.

We offer transnasal esophagoscopy, a simple office-based procedure to inspect the lining of the esophagus.
